Lamination

Lamination is a useful tool when completing your business’ printing projects as it gives your project both longevity, and a professional finish. Lamination is often confused with encapsulation, however, in the process of encapsulation, a border of plastic is left around the perimeter of the page and the plastic used to coat an encapsulated document is also much thicker.

In laminating a sheet of paper, a thin layer of either glossy or matt plastic is used over the entire surface to give an extra smooth finish. Lamination is able to protect paper or card from fingerprint marks and scratches caused by excess handling which can ordinarily damage the printed text and images.

Also, if your project has areas of heavy ink coverage, these areas are more susceptible to coming away from the paper if they are rubbed. Not only can lamination stop your ink from rubbing off of your document, it can also help to ensure that if you have chosen dark colours which are likely to bleed into lighter areas, these edges are kept clean and sharp.

For a little extra in your printing budget, choosing to have your project laminated is excellent value. Since you are already putting in the time and the effort to organise and produce the best possible result in your printed project, you want to make sure that it stays in top form for as long as possible. Laminating your print project can also ensure that you can choose the inks and the papers that you had your heart set on, without worrying about their temperamental result as they are being protected.
