Bundling and Labeling


If you have a product which you physically provide to your customers, as opposed to a service which you offer them, then your labeling of that product is one of the most important parts of your printed media. While all of your print media and marketing tools work together and must be consistent in their design and message, it is the labeling of your products which has the chance to speak the loudest to your customers.

If your products are marketed on the shelves of a supermarket, department store or even a trade outlet, then you are not always there to tell your customers why they should buy your products. In fact, your products are generally on their own as your business cards aren’t there, neither are your flyers or even your TV commercials (unless you have organised substantial point of sale advertising with the retail outlet), all your customers have to judge your product on is its label.

While you are hoping that the customer has seen some of your other advertising and will associate the brand imaging they have previously seen with what they are seeing on the shelf, that is only the first step. Even if your customers recognize your brand, name or corporate colours, they still need to make the final decision and it is what is on your label which will help them do this.

Therefore, take the time to consider what your customers want to know about your product. You can think back to the questions you are asked when delivering a sales pitch to your customers face to face to help you out. For example, do they want to know the fat content of your yogurt, which country your packaging is made in, or do they want to know if your snail bait is safe for use around their pets and children.

All of this depends on your product but make sure that even if the only contact your customer has with your company is through your product, that it meets and exceeds their expectations.
