About Us

Harlequin was formed in July 1997 with the vision of becoming the Market Leading supplier of printing & packaging products exclusively to the QSR market. The continual evolution and growth of the company over the preceding 16 years have been built around the supply of high quality, proprietary business-to-business products, knowledge and expertise through some of the longest standing independent, multiple outlet and globally recognised brands right through to the leading online food ordering portal in the world.

Having listened to our customers, the company has recently widened its scope and range of products to existing markets by venturing into printed food safe packaging products, carrying on the ethos of the company by ‘always servicing the client’s needs’.

Despite being a relatively young but established company, our printing heritage and bloodline dates back to 1956. In this year, our Chairman learnt the art of newspaper printing with ‘The East African Standard Press’. These skills and knowledge have been the backbone of the organisation and even today the guiding principles of honest, intelligent, hard work to deliver the highest quality products with exceptional service at competitive rates remains the ethos of the business.

Since then, the purchase of Dan Display & Imaging Limited, in 2005 along with a number of other companies in our arena, have built on our strategy to expand the business through acquisition, organic growth, product development and evolution by working with our customers. One of the key components of integrating Dan Display was to offer Europe’s only comprehensive food image library photographed specifically for the QSR sector particularly the takeaway POS & delivery market.

Our Certifications

We have BRC grade AA certification, which is classified as the highest grade accreditation,

meaning that the company has met very specific requirements set out by the British retail

consortium for their standards of food safe packaging within the print industry. The benefit for

commercial work (other than food packaging) being that the same standards are then applied to

all commercial work thereby enabling us to maintain a very high standard of print and finishing.

An Internal Audit schedule is generated and covers one year. All processes and procedures are

audited independently at least once per year and all critical processes are audited at least twice

per year. Any non-conformances raised at the time of the audits are dealt with through our

corrective/ preventive action procedures. These procedures are implemented by the Quality,

Health and Safety and Environmental staff, conforming to ISO requirements.

In the event of something going wrong, these procedures investigate the causes of any non-conformances and implement preventive actions to ensure problems do not re-occur. All preventive actions are dealt with by departmental managers and are given completion / close out dates. These are individually monitored to ensure preventive actions are completed on time and are effective on their implementation, and any further action is taken as necessary. Whilst the company has such procedures in place to prevent problems, the company actively promotes all staff to come forward with suggestions and ideas that could be implemented into the procedures to reduce the chances of further errors occurring. Evidence is available to show the monitoring of complaints, recorded per month, with targets set based on the previous year’s figures. The company also issues company questionnaires to Key customers ranging from Globally recognised brands to independent organisations, inviting them to supply feedback on design & development processes, product satisfaction, delivery on time, and response times, again, these forms can be made available at any time.

In the design studio, all proofs all calibrated to ISO12647 colour quality management standard, the company is working towards certification, this ensures that all proofs are colour accurate from customer proof to printing. When linked to our new Ricoh digital press we’re able to produce colour accurate proofs on all substrates, thereby allowing the customer to get an accurate printed representation of the printed product. The Printing Process is controlled by SOP60 Printing Procedure and Work Instruction, SOP 24 Calibration. Colour management is controlled be the use of calibrated equipment, Vipens 2000 Densitometer, X Rite I-C Plate2. This equipment is calibrated yearly by external specialist contractors and is traceable to national standards and on a six monthly basis internally by fully trained and qualified operators.

With regard to finishing, Quality Sampling Plans are in place to ensure that all finished product leaving the premises is inspected in accordance with BS 6001 General Inspection Level 2 1% AQL. First and Last off’s that are checked during production and are signed and dated, this is also is used to ensure continuity of the finished product.
